Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sercan Karabulut is a psychiatrist with extensive clinical and academic experience in the fields of substance use disorders, mood disorders, and psychotic disorders. His research focuses on the neuropsychiatric effects of substance use, the clinical outcomes of psychiatric treatments, and the interplay between neuroinflammation, cognition, and psychiatric symptoms. He has conducted significant work on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and methamphetamine-related disorders, exploring treatment strategies, cognitive impairments, and clinical predictors of disease progression. Dr. Karabulut has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics including dissociative disorders, antipsychotic treatment outcomes, HCV screening in addiction populations, and psychometric assessments for substance use disorders. He has contributed to book chapters addressing sexual addiction, motivational approaches for medical complications in outpatient addiction treatment, and alcohol and substance use disorders during pregnancy and postpartum. Actively engaged in professional development and knowledge dissemination, he has presented his research at numerous national and international psychiatric conferences, covering topics such as early-stage bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance-induced psychosis, and cognitive effects of addiction. His work emphasizes the integration of clinical practice with evidence-based research to improve patient outcomes and inform treatment strategies. In addition to clinical practice and research, he has contributed to panels, workshops, and case studies, addressing complex psychiatric presentations, including treatment-resistant schizophrenia, opioid and methamphetamine use, and psychiatric comorbidities in diverse populations.
