Dr. Stivas holds a Ph.D. in Government and International Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University (2016-2020), where he explored the securitization of the European refugee crisis. He also obtained an M.A. in EU International Relations and Diplomacy from the College of Europe (2014-2015) and a Master’s in EU Law from Maastricht University (2013-2014). His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Laws from The Hague University (2010-2013), graduating Cum Laude.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (2023-present), Dr. Stivas has held various academic and research roles, including Research Fellow at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (2023) and Lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University (2021-2023) and Chinese University of Hong Kong (2022-2023). His previous positions include Senior Research Assistant and Research Associate at Hong Kong Baptist University and Course Coordinator for EU-China Relations at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

His research delves into the role of political narratives in crisis management, transparency in governance, and the implications of EU-China relations on global politics.
