Prof. Dr. Böhler’s academic journey spans several prestigious institutions across Europe. He began his theological studies at Freiburg University and Innsbruck University before joining the Jesuit Novitiate in Nuremberg. His philosophical studies culminated in a Bacc. phil. from Hochschule für Philosophie, Munich, followed by theological studies at Sankt Georgen, Frankfurt, earning a Dipl. theol. He later completed his Lic. bibl. at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, and obtained a Dr. theol. from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, with a groundbreaking thesis on Israel’s restoration concepts in biblical texts.

Since 1998, Prof. Dr. Böhler has been teaching Old Testament, Hebrew, and Aramaic at Sankt Georgen, Frankfurt. His roles have included serving as a consultant to the German Bishops’ Conference Liturgical Commission (2001–2016) and contributing to the revision of the German Bible translation (Einheitsübersetzung). In 2022, he was appointed as a consultor for the Dicastery for Divine Worship in Rome, reflecting his deep expertise in liturgy and biblical theology.
