Dr. Diana Martinez | Biomaterials | Best Researcher Award
Postdoctoral Fellow | Universite Laval | Canada
Diana Clemencia Martinez Guerrero is a postdoctoral fellow at Universite Laval with a strong academic and research background in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. She earned her doctoral degree at the Warsaw University of Technology, where her thesis focused on magnesium-based biodegradable implants, exploring surface characterization and tissue-implant interactions through in vitro and in vivo degradation studies. Prior to this, she completed a master’s degree in Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Sheffield as a COLFUTURO scholarship recipient, conducting research on fucoidan as a potential biomaterial for bone regeneration. Her academic journey began with dentistry at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, followed by a specialization in Oral Rehabilitation, where she achieved meritorious distinction for her final project on biomechanical behavior of implant-supported crowns. Her research experience includes contributing to international projects such as the V4-Japan Joint Research Program on advanced magnesium alloys and the Horizon Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action Mg Safe project, where she performed pre-implantation characterization and ex-vivo analysis of magnesium-based implants. At the University of Sheffield, she gained valuable laboratory experience in cell culture, investigating the effects of natural polysaccharides on osteoblast differentiation and bone regeneration. With a multidisciplinary background that integrates dentistry, materials science, and biomedical engineering, her expertise lies in developing innovative biomaterials for orthopedic and dental applications. She has authored 12 scientific documents with 134 citations across 123 citing documents, reflecting the visibility and impact of her work. She is fluent in Spanish, has professional proficiency in English, and basic knowledge of Polish, complementing her international research collaborations and academic engagement.
