Tamene began his academic journey at Abela Shoyn Primary School (1993–1998 E.C.), then advanced to Humbo Tebela Preparatory and Secondary School (1999–2005 E.C.). He earned his undergraduate degree from Mettu University (2006–2009 E.C.). Driven by his passion for mental health, he pursued his postgraduate studies at Jimma University (2013–2015 E.C.), earning an MSc in Integrated Clinical and Community Mental Health.
💼 Experience
Tamene started his career in September 2010 E.C. at Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital and AKHC in Addis Ababa, serving as a junior psychiatric professional. From November 2011 to 2013 F.C., he worked at WSUTRH, where he led the psychiatry unit, managing treatments and coordinating patient care. He was a mental health focal person in Wolaita Zone during the COVID-19 crisis, helping patients cope with mental health emergencies. From December 2013 to April 2015 E.C., while studying at Jimma University, he simultaneously provided psychiatric services. Since April 2015 E.C., Tamene has been serving as a mental health specialist at WSUCSH, managing psychiatric cases and training medical students.

Tamene’s interests include integrated psychiatric care, community mental health, crisis response, and substance use disorder treatment. He focuses on enhancing mental health service accessibility in underserved communities and implementing culturally sensitive psychosocial interventions.

Tamene received training in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPS) in June 2012 E.C. at Hawassa University, strengthening his capacity to respond to psychological needs during crises. He has been recognized within his institutions for his dedicated service, especially during COVID-19-related mental health challenges.
