Prof. Zhengrong Yuan | Animal biological breeding | Best Researcher Award

Professor | Beijing Forestry University College of Biological Sciences and Technology | China

Zhengrong Yuan is a professor at the College of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Beijing Forestry University, specializing in animal endocrinology, cancer bioinformatics, metabolism during hibernation, seasonal breeding, and genetic improvement of beef cattle. His research encompasses reproductive biology, genomics, bioinformatics, evolutionary and developmental biology, artificial intelligence applications in biology, and microbiomics. He has held postdoctoral positions and served as a visiting scholar focusing on muscle and fat differentiation and metabolism. Yuan has contributed extensively to the scientific literature, with publications on the ubiquitin-specific protease gene family in cattle, pan-cancer association analyses, gut microbiota and metabolic homeostasis during hibernation, and seasonal variations in reproductive and metabolic gene expression in wild animals. His work also explores the interplay between the gut microbiome and host physiology, as well as predictive genetic markers in livestock and human diseases, demonstrating a multidisciplinary approach bridging genetics, physiology, and computational biology. Yuan has led several projects funded by national and regional science foundations, investigating molecular mechanisms underlying musk secretion in muskrats, dairy mastitis, and functional genomics in livestock. He serves in leadership and editorial roles, including director of the Cattle Breeding Branch of the Chinese Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medical Association, post scientist in industry technology systems, review editor for Frontiers in Microbiology, and guest editor for Metabolites. His work integrates cutting-edge genomic and bioinformatic tools with applied animal science, advancing knowledge in animal physiology, reproductive biology, and disease resistance, while contributing to the development of innovative strategies for livestock breeding and management.
